Qualification Requirements:

  • A Baccalaureate degree from an accredited college in Engineering or Architecture and ten (10) years of practical experience in an engineering/architectural field, with at least five (5) years of managerial/supervisory experience in construction, engineering, architectural management or a satisfactory equivalent combination of education or experience.

License and Certification Requirements:

  • Valid New York State Professional Engineer’s License, OR
  • Valid New York State Registration as an Architect, OR
  • Valid Certified Construction Manager certification issued by the Construction Manager Certification Institute (CMCI)

Experience Requirements:

  • Ten (10) years of practical experience in an engineering/architectural field, with at least five (5) years of managerial/supervisory experience in construction/engineering /architectural management or a satisfactory equivalent combination of education and experience.  

Special Skills/Training Requirements:

  • In-depth knowledge of standards of contractor performance for all relevant areas of capital construction;
  • Knowledge of NYC Transit operations and practices and an in-depth knowledge of transit facilities;
  • Knowledge of construction scheduling and estimating;
  • Knowledge of capital construction design and related procedures;

Description of Work:

  • Responsible for construction management, administration, testing, inspection and completion of beneficial use, substantial completion and closeout for assigned capital projects in the Infrastructure and Facilities program. This position requires significant interaction with the Operating Departments, Capital Planning and Budget, Procurement, Estimating, Scheduling and the Design team.
  • 45% Manages construction and contract administration and construction inspection in order to deliver timely, cost-effective, and high-quality projects to designated CPM clients. Reports on ongoing project performance.
  • 20% Works with clients to ensure that construction practices conform to Department of Capital Program Management plans, guidelines, and standards. Works with other program area staff to incorporate revisions to plans and guidelines as required.
  • 15% Establishes performance measures with respect to key construction goals of quality, safety, cost-effectiveness, timeliness, customer satisfaction, and environmental excellence. Incorporates results into relevant processes and practices.
  • 15% Works with Engineering Services senior management and Program Manager to project and obtain staff resources for delivering capital projects. Takes actions to ensure performance of assigned construction staff.
  • 5% Interfaces with outside agencies and community boards and acts as an official representative for NYC
