Introduction

Our client is a Fortune 50 technology company that makes products that touch the lives of millions of customers around the world.  The selected candidate will be part of a team focused on optimizing the customer care experience for a wide variety of consumer and commercial users of our client’s products and associated fleet management systems, including:  computers in all formats, printers and imaging devices, mobile devices, device management/monitoring applications, and field tech support systems. You will work with members of our User Experience and broader Customer Support teams to create successful and engaging user experiences for these web-based customer support systems. Your key contributions will come from designing and conducting user research, and contributing findings and actionable recommendations, as well as providing subject matter expertise and consulting regarding user experience best practices for a wide variety of projects and initiatives that touch all aspects of our customer-facing sites and properties.

Description

We are looking for a proactive, self-motivated individual with the ability to analyze data from multiple sources and synthesize issues suspected to have root causes in usability and UI. This person will then organize and execute investigations into these issues and assess the efficacy of proposed solutions. Job functions will include, but are not limited to:

  • Determining the UX research methodology best suited to optimally meet stakeholder objectives and best practices
  • Designing, conducting and analyzing user research according to user-centered design principles
  • Being alert to ongoing developments in the UX research field regarding new and improved testing methodologies, with an eye towards reducing both costs and the time needed to get to actionable results
  • Developing end-user personas
  • Exploring new technology solutions and their application to real-world support services
  • Conducting competitive analyses
  • Creating and presenting engaging reports of findings and actionable recommendations, both in person and remotely
  • Collaborating on prototyping of new service and solution concepts
  • Negotiating requirements and designs with UX team, developers, product managers and other key stakeholders
  • Working closely with UX, development & implementation teams to bring new functions/features to life

Requirements/Desired Skills/Experience

The ideal candidate will have at least 3+ years of experience and have demonstrated the ability to:

  • Design and implement a variety of UX research methods including: usability testing, contextual inquiry, card sorting, focus groups, surveys and questionnaires, competitive analysis, heuristic evaluations, information architecture, qualitative & quantitative research
  • Perform data analysis (statistical analysis experience a plus)
  • Create compelling presentations of findings and actionable recommendations; ability to engage stakeholders in presentations
  • Work in a fast-paced work environment, meeting challenging stakeholder objectives and within associated constraints
  • Research, write and negotiate user/service requirements
  • Perform effectively in an Agile environment (highly desirable)
  • Express design recommendations using wireframes, mockups, and/or simulations (desirable)
  • Create prototypes with varying levels of behavior and fidelity (desirable)

And have:

  • Training in experimental design and a variety of user research methodologies (statistical analysis a plus)
  • A working knowledge of end-user research & design tools and best practices applicable to web-based environments for a variety of computing & mobile devices & wireless technologies
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • A personal interest in current developments in user experience research methods and approaches and supporting technologies
  • Experience writing copy for the web or mobile environments (highly desirable)
  • Experience in customer support for consumers and business users of information technology systems (highly desirable)

Education:

Advanced degree (or equivalent experience) in human factors, cognitive/experimental psychology, human computer interaction, or UX/interaction design, is required.
