Location: Middletown, NJ (must work full-time onsite in lab and test bed environment)

Introduction

Work in a R&D environment with a team of engineers to implement and install, for field trials, new RF/Microwave communications technology designs and concepts.  This is a hands on position.

Job Description

  • Read blueprints, wiring diagrams, schematic drawings, and engineering instructions for assembling electronics units, applying knowledge of electronic theory and components
  • Assemble, test, and maintain circuitry of electronic or RF components according to engineering instructions, technical manuals, and knowledge of electronics, using hand and power tools, as well as a soldering iron.
  • Plan test bed installations according technical specifications; order and gather equipment, supplies, materials, and tools; assess installation site.
  • Implement installations by running, pulling, terminating, and splicing cables; installing telecommunications equipment, routers, switches, multiplexors, cable trays, and alarm and fire-suppression systems; building ironwork and ladder racks; establishing connections; programming features; establishing connections and integrations; following industry standards; activating remote access tools; coordinating with engineering team members and suppliers.
  • Design basic circuitry and draft sketches for clarification of details and design documentation under the direction of the design/development engineering team, using drafting instruments and computer aided design equipment.
  • Build prototypes from rough sketches or plans.
  • Install and control power supplies and batteries.

Requirements/Desired Skills/Experience:

  • Minimum 3 years of relevant hands-on experience in a post-academic RF/Microwave R&D or production environment
  • Experience constructing, testing and demonstrating microwave/RF system prototypes. Extensive background in radio technology, including propagation measurements, mechanical fabrication, hardware design and testing, and equipment repair is desirable.
  • Experience in application RF fundamentals is desirable including: wireless systems engineering, predicting radio path loss, fixed and mobile wireless propagation, root-mean-square delay spread, angle-of-arrival distribution, radio transmission techniques, RF Gain, Gain Flatness, Gain Matching, Return Loss, P1 dB Compression, Phase tracking, Log linearity.
  • Familiarity with transmission line theory is desirable.
  • Experience with electronic circuit design and build/test.
  • Experience installing and testing circuits and circuit boards using best practices and grounding techniques.

Education:

  • BS degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering Technology, Telecommunications Engineering Technology, or related discipline is desirable; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
