Introduction:
Our firm, The KOHL Group, has a small team of UX researchers and designers supporting our client’s Global Enterprise Printing and Imaging Experience Group, based in Boise, ID where we are contributing to initiatives to solve complex business challenges in this domain. We are looking for an Interaction Designer to join our team.
- Selected candidate will have a proficient to expert level understanding of a variety of user experience design principles. She/he must be able to work well across departments with team members in Marketing, Product Engineering, Design, Communication and Voice Writers, Firmware Engineering, and Development.
- Selected candidate will demonstrate experience in converting concepts and results from usability research into design specifications and prototypes with varying levels of behavior and fidelity. Highest level requirements beyond interaction design experience, include: (1) mastery of Axure interaction design tool (or other tool expertise such as Sketch, InVision, Adobe Creative Suite, etc.); and (2) ability to collaborate and communicate/negotiate within a multi-disciplined team in an agile and global design team focused on printing/imaging ecosystem products and associated fleet management systems used by businesses of all sizes located worldwide.
Responsibilities:
You will help define and design new features. You will be expected to read new feature concept documentation, feature descriptions, and requests from customers and interpret the use cases and distill the tasks that the user will need and want to be able to perform with the new feature. You will need to work with others to further define the feature, propose a design, review the design, and get approval and alignment from stakeholders. You must fill out the design, providing sufficient details for others to correctly understand and implement the design. The designer is also expected to support the feature after the design is complete and throughout development, incorporating feedback, change requests, and user data that can be leveraged to improve future iterations. Further detail on roles and responsibilities, include:
- Work within an Experience and Design Team taking projects from concept to completion with the goal of optimizing the work experience for users of imaging and printing systems in business applications.
- Develop user experience requirements and interaction designs for the business print ecosystem of products, services and solutions.
- Collaborate with User Experience, Design Research and Visual Design to deliver an intuitive and effective product experience.
- Collaborate with Design’s business partners (product management, marketing, SW/FW/HW development) on products and solutions.
- Be able to balance the end users’ needs while understanding the unique requirements of enterprise/business environments.
- Work on projects across multiple platforms including mobile, tablet, PC, web, and embedded devices.
- Lead Interaction Design on medium complexity projects.
- Produce design specifications and prototypes to clearly communicate concepts and final designs.
- Revise designs based on design reviews/critiques, research findings, usability testing, customer support feedback, and partner input.
- Participate in innovation/concept brainstorms and generate new ideas.
Experience/Education Required:
- 5-10+ years relevant design experience and a portfolio showcasing original, innovative and inspiring work that solves complex design challenges.
- Have a formal degree in Interaction Design, HCI, Product Design, Industrial Design or a related discipline.
- An understanding of HTML, CSS, JavaScript and mobile platform capabilities from a design perspective.
- Experience with both creative agency and in-house design studio is a plus.
Knowledge and Skills:
- An excellent understanding of digital product design process, methodologies and tools.
- Ability to think holistically and design beyond the screen.
- Experience delivering high quality user experiences that meet business objectives and technical requirements.
- Excel at collaborating with a multi-discipline team that includes designers, developers and marketing.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills; mastery in English; expertise with technical writing is desirable.
- Ability to clearly communicate your concepts and design rational to the multidiscipline project team.
- Attention to details, coupled with critical thinking.
- Be an expert in your digital tools of choice, such as Adobe Creative Suite, Axure, Sketch and InVision, to document and bring your compelling vision to life via rapid prototyping and wireframing.
- Although not a requirement, some experience with usability testing is desirable.
