Ethernet Radio (Baseband) Test Engineer
The KOHL Group, Inc. (since 1984)
Position Title: | Ethernet Radio (baseband) Test Engineers – multiple openings |
KOHL Position ID: | R0316 |
Arrangement: | Long term contract assignment |
Location: | Middletown, NJ (full time onsite) |
Job Description:
We have immediate multiple openings for Ethernet Radio (baseband) Test Engineers. Work is full-time onsite in Middletown, NJ. BSEE required (MSEE preferred) and at least 2 years hands-on testing experience. Excellent English written communication skills. We are looking for engineers that like to work on leading-edge technologies, like to learn new techniques and capabilities, and keep current in radio and interconnecting optical technologies. Selected candidates will be part of a research & development group that is responsible for developing new broadband access/transport technologies using microwave and millimeter-wave radio.
Requirements:
- Responsible for designing tests and experiments, and developing test plans
- Must have specific knowledge of Layer 2 Ethernet performance testing (RFC 2544)
- experience conducting bench and field experiments to characterize Ethernet radio performance
- Basic understanding of Ethernet Network Architectures and associated provisioning of routers/switches and QoS/DSCP/firewall issues and troubleshooting
- Have a solid understanding of baseband interfaces and technologies – physical layer
- Collecting, processing, and analyzing data, and documenting results
- Determining the impact of results as they relate to future technology investigation
- Supporting physical simulations of this technology in the field
- Performing experiments using multiple radio profiles and frequency bands as new radio software/hardware is acquired and as the research direction dictates
- Responsible for Tier-4 field support once equipment is deployed, which may require immediate hands-on re-configuration of hardware
- 2+ years of experience with direct hands-on experience with Layer 2 Ethernet testing and debugging.
- A broad background in radio engineering and Ethernet performance characterization is required (with knowledge of governing deployment issues such as RLAG and adaptive modulation correlated with throughput)
- Background in NLOS, and Point to Multi-Point and RDAS is highly desirable
- Must be familiar with measurement techniques and test equipment, data acquisition interfaces, and issues relevant to connectivity to carrier-grade networks
- Must have hands-on experience with the Spirent Test Center, knowledge of basic routing protocols (like OSPF, RSTP, BDF)
- Should have proficiency in design, provisioning, and maintenance of networks
- Co-residency with the hardware is required to change ports/cards/cables, confirm configurations when test results are negative, and to generate specific alarm conditions when testing Element Management Systems. Exposure to multiple vendor relationships and intellectual property requires individuals to have a high standard of integrity and a strong sense of professional ethics.
- Hands-on experience with radio link management tools and radio provisioning is desirable
- Strong knowledge of configuring and building L2/L3 networks is a plus
- Experience with Ericsson and Nokia Microwave Radios
- Experience with testing Element Management Systems
- Knowledge of PDH technology and associated test gear
- Experience with T1 circuit emulation
