Brief Description
- Usability test design and moderation; data analysis; presenting findings & recommendations to stakeholders
Job Description
- Independently design, run and analyze usability studies and focus groups
- Research consumer behaviors and expectations
- Explore new technologies and their application to real-world environments
- Design and conduct contextual inquiry research and competitive analyses
- Prototype new feature/function concepts
- Design, run and analyze concept validation studies with a sample of users
- Prepare and deliver compelling presentations of findings and recommendations for improvements to stakeholders at all levels
- Negotiate requirements and designs with developers and product managers
- Research includes: one on one usability testing, contextual inquiry research, focus groups, card sorts/tree testing (information architecture), and surveys
Requirements/Desired Skills/Experience
- Ideal candidate has an advanced degree (or equivalent experience) in experimental/cognitive Psychology (or related field of study), a personal interest in current developments in mobile and web-based applications, 5 years or more of post-academic relevant research experience, and demonstrated the ability to:
- Independently design, set up, run and analyze usability studies
- Clearly and succinctly document study results
- Research, write and negotiate user/service requirements
- Leverage training in experimental design, usability testing and basic statistics
- Develop and deliver engaging presentations of findings and recommendations for improvement
- Apply principles of Human Factors to design systems, design experiments, scale methodologies, moderate usability testing/focus groups, and perform basic statistical analysis
Education
Advanced degree (or equivalent experience) in human computer interaction, human factors, cognitive/experimental psychology, or interaction design.
